Lake McKenzie is one of the most visited lakes on the island. It is a “perched” lake, so it only contains rainwater. It contains no groundwater and does not flow to the ocean. The bottom of the lake is an impervious layer so the rainwater doesn’t drain away.
The sand is pure white silica and is beautiful to look at and walk on. The sand also filters the water and so the lake has very little life in it. The colours of Lake McKenzie are breathtakingly beautiful.
